Main purpose of job
To implement policies and procedures to provide an effective employee
relations service and to encourage harmonious industrial relations in
the organization.
Main responsibilities
1. Apply all necessary policies and procedures to promote effective
communication between management and staff and to encourage
harmonious industrial relations.
2. Assist in communicating all personnel policies to employees.
3. Consult employee representatives and shop stewards about joint
agreements, terms and conditions of employment and other workrelated
4. Attend and keep minutes of joint consultative committee meetings
and ensure that any required follow-up action is taken.
5. Carry out research to provide information to support negotiations
on pay and conditions.
6. Advise managers on all aspects of employee relations and on the
interpretation of joint agreements.
7. Support managers at disciplinary or grievance hearings, or in the
event of collective disputes or industrial action.
8. Maintain up-to-date knowledge about employment law as it
relates to employee relations.
