Senior Communications Officer – Action Against Hunger – Action Contre La Faim (ACF)

Action Against Hunger is an international non-governmental organization working in more than 40 countries in the fields of nutrition, food security and livelihoods, water sanitation and hygiene, and care practices. ACF is looking for its program in Jordan for Senior Communications Officer

Work place: Amman, JORDAN with up to 50% travel to field sites

Monthly Basic Salary Range: 1052 JOD

A. Specific Objectives:

Provide technical support to Action Against Hunger teams in fulfilling the strategic communications priorities of Jordan, both at country level and as part of the Middle East region, in line with Action Against Hunger guidelines and policies

B. Main Objectives

Mission 1: Produce communications materials about Action Against Hunger Jordan programmes in line with the organisation’s strategic priorities and plans

• Develop communications materials such as press releases, talking points, stories, videos, backgrounders, social media, and other materials in a proactive manner and as needed
• Develop internal communication materials as required
Examples of tasks:
– Create and maintain communications material database / files
– Research and publish video, stories, and other materials about successes and needs in Action Against Hunger’s projects and the contexts in which it is working in Jordan
– Take, caption, and—as appropriate—publish photos depicting Action Against Hunger’s work and the experiences of its project participants / beneficiaries, always upholding the dignity of the photo subject
– Based on the skeleton of communication plan drafted, build a thorough country office communications plan.

Mission 2: Support the integration of good communications practices into project cycle management
• Promote awareness throughout the team on good communications practices
• Create, maintain, and ensure understanding amongst the team on donor visibility requirements and communications commitments in project proposals
• Establish project-specific communications and visibility plans, including work plans for completing communications and visibility commitments
Examples of tasks:
– Create straightforward, easy-to-apply tools and templates for guiding the development of communications materials, such as photo guidelines and human interest story templates
– Conduct internal capacity building—such as through trainings and coaching—to increase and improve team contribution to communications activities and materials
– Develop synopses of donor visibility requirements by project
– Draft project-specific communications work plans with clear delegation of roles and responsibilities in consultation with project leads, Field Coordinators, and relevant Heads of Departments

Mission 3: Assist in implementing Action Against Hunger’s visibility, branding, and communications policies

• Ensure all written, photographic, video, web, and other communications material produced are done in alignment with Action Against Hunger child protection and gender policies and standards
• Support in Action Against Hunger Jordan’s compliance with international branding and corporate identity
• Operationalise the Jordan-level communications strategy
• Coordinate with other Action Against Hunger Communications staff to ensure consistency in approaches taken to external representation
• Lead by example as an active contributor to advancing Action Against Hunger’s gender mainstreaming efforts and gender equitable approach through the use of gender-sensitive communications guidelines
Examples of tasks:
– Create / review consent forms for communications purposes, ensure their consistent use for all communications materials produced, and maintain consent form files
– Contribute to media outreach plan, resulting in increased positive coverage of Action Against Hunger’s work in local and national media outlets as needed
– Ensure the external communication resources use correct Action Against Hunger identity
– Serve as interlocutor between Action Against Hunger Jordan and Headquarters and Regional Communications staff as well as mass media contacts on media requests
– Reinforce inclusion of gender considerations in implementation and partnership methodologies, with specific respect for Action Against Hunger’s Gender Minimum Standards
– Promote and uphold the use inclusive language and avoid perpetuating stereotypical gender roles
– Support the development and roll-out of gender-sensitive communications guidelines

Mission 4: Fulfil general responsibilities and contribute to broader Action Against Hunger Jordan operational quality and consistency

• Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive information at all times
• Perform other job related tasks as requested by the supervisor
• Commit to and comply with the organisation’s gender, age, and diversity principles and policies (working with people, communication)
• Support on the implementation and the promotion of gender, age and diversity principles through daily activities and / or through the management of teams (managing performance and development)
